About Home Security Alarms

Some dangerous people may break into your home, steal your possessions or injure your family members without warning. So you need the best defense against the danger: home security alarms. If you are considering installing a home security alarm system, you should begin to learn a little more about how the home security system works.

Home Security Alarms

History

The early home security alarms models were expensive and cumbersome to use and they were available from the early 1900s. Early alarms were triggered when a button fitted into the door or window frame was released. But all these were very easy to silence, and they were not connected to any emergency services. Nowadays, home security alarms use an electric circuit that is altered when the door or window is opened. The alarm will be triggered if the house owner’s code is not entered into the system in enough time. Many home security systems nowadays are connected to switchboards that can contact the police if the alarm is triggered.

Types

When you are going to purchase a home security alarm system, you will need to decide whether you want a hard-wired or wireless system. As you can see, hard-wired systems are much more difficult to install. Wireless alarm systems have fewer parts, but do require regular maintenance to work efficiently. If you choose a wireless system, you also need to decide which power method you will choose to support the system: electricity or batteries. If you lose power, you will still be secure with a battery-operated system, but you will need to check the batteries regularly.

Function

Home security alarm system is a “closed circuit” around your home. A trigger, such as a button or a sensor, is installed in your doors and windows, which are the entry points for potential thieves. If the door or window is opened when the system is turned on, it breaks the closed circuit, and the alarm will be triggered. And motion sensors are used in some other home security systems. These trigger an alarm or turn on the lights if motion is detected within the home, adding a second level of security if the perimeter is successfully breached.

Effects

A loud siren or other noise will occur if someone tries to break into your home while you have got a home security alarm in your house. Flashing outdoor lights are also a common alarm triggered by security systems. This alerts your neighbors that there is a problem and, in most cases, scares the intruder away. A telephone auto-dialer is also included in many systems. It can be programmed to call the police with a pre-recorded message and it also can dial the security company that installed the system, who then can send the necessary information to the police.

Considerations

At last, you need to decide whether to install it yourself or hire a pro if you are considering installing a home security alarm. Of course, installing it yourself is the most affordable option. However, you do need to have some electrical skills to successfully install one of these systems. The installation will go smoothly with a professional installer. Usually, the installation will be part of an overall security package offered by a home security company. You will probably have to use a professional installer if you want the services of one of these companies.

Things You Need

Screw driver
Electrical tape

Instructions

1. Turn off the electrical breaker which is wired to the doorbell in order to disconnect the electrolytic current. Then go to your doorbell and doorbell button.

2. Remove the cover panel from the bell by pulling it off of the bell’s frame. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws that are securing the frame to the wall. Loosen the wire connections and pull the wires from the connectors.

3. Positive and negative wires from each other on the ground. Then take out the Electrical tape and place the tape around the exposed wires. Push the wires back into the wall. Make sure that the wires are completely covered to avoid fire.

4. Remove the screws that are securing the doorbell button to the outside door frame. Loosen the wire connections and pull the wires from the button. Place electric tape around the tips of each wire as you did for the bell wires, and pushes them back into the wall.

5. A wall patch kit from your local home repair store will have everything that you’ll need to repair the hole left in the wall where the doorbell was. The store should also have a patch kit for the exterior door frame.

Tips & Warnings

Not properly concealing the exposed wires with electric tape will result in a fire once the electricity is turned back on if the wires touch each other.

How to Rate Home Security Systems

As the gun ban, our society becomes much more dangerous. Especially our kids, we even cannot put them alone at home now. Home securities systems help deter thieves and other criminals from breaking into your home to hurt your families. Many insurance companies will even offer a discount on your premiums for installing a security system. This article below will show you how to rate the different systems on the market in order to help you choose the right one for your home.

Instructions
1. When choosing the security company, make sure they are in good standing with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and boast a high level of customer satisfaction. In order to accurately rate your system options, you need to compare different companies.
2. Each company will send a representative to make initial in-home consultations with you. They will provide a thorough description of each system offered, especially in terms of its operation and ability to meet your specific needs. Consider each representative’s eagerness to answer your questions and forthrightness concerning the overall price when rendering your rating.
3. Check each system’s standard feature to get a better idea which one rates higher on your list. And these features you should look for: constant alarm monitoring, guaranteed response time, cell phone backup, and system warranties.
4. Whether the system is practical to operate that is also very important. You know you must use it everyday. And you do not want to consult a lengthy manual or attend a training session just to engage or disengage it.
5. At last, you need to consider your budget as an important rating factor. You need to know that purchasing a security system is an investment for your families and house. But usually a system with a lofty price tag will not secure your home any better than one that includes only the features you require and will regularly use at a reasonable price.
Tips & Warnings
Before selecting a home security system, go to set up an in-home consultation with multiple companies.
Check the one who will install a security system in your home whether has a Burglary Alarm License. Licensed installers must submit their fingerprints and pass a background check which further ensures your safety.
