Laser in your PSP is the most important part because it reads the
game discs and allows them to be played on the device. So if the laser
in your PSP is damaged or broken, your PSP will be completely worthless.
However, you can fix the problem by yourself. You can easily open your PSP cover and replace the damaged laser. And you need to completely disassemble your PSP to access the laser.

Small Phillips-head screwdriver
Instructions
1. Power off your PSP. Turn it over and take off the battery cover. Get the battery out of its compartment.
2. Remove the 4 screws from each corner of the battery compartment
with the Phillips-head screwdriver. First to remove the 2 screws located
on the top and bottom of the corners of the side of the unit. Then
remove the one on the bottom of the unit.
3. Use your fingers or the plastic tool to pry the faceplate off the unit and set it aside.
4. Insert the tip of your Phillips-head screwdriver in the seam between the button bar and bottom of the LCD screen. Then, gently pry the button bar off the unit.
5. Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop the 4 tabs on each corner
of the LCD screen, and then lift the screen up. Carefully take off the 2
screen cables from the back of the screen and set the screen aside.
6. There is a metal LCD plate covering the motherboard and you need
to remove all 7 screws from it. Remove the LCD plate and set it aside.
7. Gently unplug the 2 large orange ribbon cables from the left side
of the motherboard. Remove all screws from the sides of the motherboard
with your screwdriver.
8. Lift the motherboard out of the unit and disconnect the white
antenna wire from the corner of the board. Put the motherboard away.
9. Remove all screws from the metal motherboard support plate
underneath where the motherboard used to sit, and then remove the plate
itself.
10. Remove all screws from the sides of the memory stick circuit board and lift it out of the unit to expose the laser assembly door.
11. Pop the door up and reveal the metal laser assembly with the screwdriver’s tip.
12. You will find 4 screws on each corner of the square metal
assembly. Use your screwdriver to remove them and then lift the square
metal assembly out of the unit.
13. Remove all screws from the sides of the assembly and gently pull it apart.
14. Now you can remove the old broken assembly and replace with the
new one. At last, reassemble your PSP in the
reverse order you took it apart.
