Nowadays, more and more people would like to choose light-emitting diode (LED) lights as their Christmas decoration lights
instead of incandescent bulbs. The facts behind this newer lighting
style may satisfy curiosity as to why they’ve become so prevalent.
Science
There is a small semi-conducting chip inside each LED light which
carries electrical current. When the current passes through one side of
the chip (the anode) to the other side of the chip (the cathode),
electrons emit a wavelength of light.
Efficiency
The most important reason that LED lights replace the old type bulbs
become the most popular Christmas lights is their energy saving feature.
LED Christmas lights operate at a rate that is up to 90 percent more
efficient than incandescent bulbs.
Longevity
LED lights are resilient and are less susceptible to total failure.
However, over the course of their lifetime, they can lose brightness and
suffer from a gradual lowering of light.
Colors
Different colors of lights are created by shortening or lengthening
the wavelength that is produced by the reaction. The material used for
the semiconductor ultimately identifies the color that is produced.
Popularity
In the past, early LEDs were originally available in just a few
colors–green, red and yellow. And in the early 2000s, as the technology
involved in creating them became more affordable, the lights more
durable, and the variety of available colors expanded. So now LED
Christmas lighting started to become more popular.
